“The high point in my skating career was when we won the Junior Grand Prix in Japan. Standing on the podium, listening to that national anthem and watching that flag rise was emotional. Once it was playing, I knew it was a moment that I would take home with me. I truly believe that medals and results don’t amount to much, but standing with Maddie in that moment, even I knew it was something special.
Ice dance is a two person sport, so much of what I did was tied to another person. That’s for better or for worse. When your skating partner is doing well, you are doing well. When they are hurt, you are hurt. You are a team. When one part of the team breaks, you break. We were working hard all the way to the end. The sport, with all its highs and lows, taught me to roll with the punches and keep grinding, something I keep in mind to this day.” – Zhao Kai Pang, 2014 Junior World’s Bronze Medalist in Ice dance with Madeline Edwards.
