#BellLetsTalk “Dealing with performance anxiety and depression throughout my life has always been a struggle. From writing academic exams to playing in basketball games, I had a tendency to second guess myself which negatively affected my performance and my day to day life. At times I would work myself up to the point where I was unable to breathe, speak, or even be out in public at all without having a breakdown. Before basketball games, I would shake, sweat, and sometimes even get sick. One day I questioned myself whether it was normal to feel this way. I was surrounded by friends who loved me, yet I felt completely alone and hopeless. That’s when I decided to talk to my friends and family, and I finally reached out to get professional help for my struggles. It’s been a long ongoing journey for me to try and overcome my anxiety and depression, but knowing that there is help out there through family, friends, and professionals puts my mind at ease. For me, focusing on the positives of each day, working on my body and my mind, setting realistic goals, and being able to openly talk about my anxiety with caring members around me has helped me push forward towards improving my overall mental health. –#HankfitFam Taka Gomez
