“My proudest moment in the sport was definitely winning X Games in 2016. It was my 10th year in Aspen and I have 3 bronze and 2 Silvers so I was kind of getting to that point where I was like, ‘am I going to be that person that just never wins X games?’, but that day everything kind of came together for me, was able to land the run that I wanted to, so yeah finally got that Gold.
It was crazy because I kind of made a couple mistakes in my first run, got a pretty weak score and it was a fair score but I knew if I could put that run down clean then I could be up there. So yeah I just went back up to the top and was just like I’m just going to do it again and do it better, did it almost as good as I could’ve done it, I think I jumped like 12 points or something, got so many more points and I was in first and so blown away. That’s the thing for me with slope-style, I pick a run and if I can do that run and execute it the way that I said I was going to do it then I’ve got to be so happy with that. In that moment, still having 1 run to go and the best girls in the world all get 1 more try, so it was very easy for that score to not hold on, so in that moment I was just so ecstatic that I landed that run and I got to ride the way that I wanted to ride, like no matter what happens no one can take that away from you. That was really special but then I got to do another run and I went for the ‘Back 9’ and I came a little short on that and didn’t quite execute the way I wanted to but I just had to sit and wait, it was the most nerve wracking thing ever to watch people and wait for the score to come in, when the last score came in and didn’t beat me, I just bursts into tears and it was really just one of the best moments in my career. It was indescribable I guess.” – Spencer O’Brien, Pro Snowboarder, X Games Gold Medallist, Olympian. (3/7)
