“Happiest moment was representing Canada at Junior World’s in 2013, definitely my proudest moment as well. I didn’t go into trials expecting I was going to make the team or anything. I just went in, it was my last chance so I thought mind as well give it my all, I had really good races at trials and after trials I heard I made the team, I didn’t even go home, the whole summer I was away traveling, making friends, it was a great experience because since I was away from out of my comfort zone I got to make lots of good friends, meet new people so that was my favorite thing about paddling. After trials we got our uniform and everything so that was really cool, getting the Maple Leaf on the jersey and singlet. That was when I really knew I was going to represent Canada.
I was so nervous. I raced on that course a lot of times because World’s was in Canada that year. The race was pretty much the same, I like to think it was the same but it was crazy though, it was on TV so I wasn’t used to that. I definitely felt like I was ready but it was just a lot of pressure I guess but after I got a race in I got back into the zone and it felt just like any other races again.” – Patrick Dann, Canadian Kayaker.
