“It was our first time on television, it was our first time in front of a big crowd, finished and skated the way we were proud of and knowing we probably made the National Team was just so relieving. You are so exhausted but so happy at the same time.
We immediately thought about ‘okay what’s next, what’s next, what does this mean for us making it on the National Team’, because there’s still so much room for us to grow, so many places for us to go. And definitely one of the greatest things about being on the National Team especially this past year was the fact that Scott and Tessa who are legends in our sport basically were on it after having taken a few years off. They are retiring after this Olympics too so it’s our last chance to get that close to them and be that close to them, that was just so cool. I’m so happy we got to experience that.
Part of you wants to live that moment for a really long time, another part of you like ‘oh I need to get done, I need to get through this, I’m so tired’, there’s so much emotion going on but another part of you just wants to stay in it, it’s weird. It’s all surreal, it’s all dream like. And when you try to think about it in your memory and stuff, it’s never the same and every time you think about it again, it’s something totally different.” – Nik Wamsteeker, Team Canada Ice Dancer.
