My Fitness Story | By Delys Rivera

I’ve always been an active girl, I started practicing Karate when I was 14 years old and during all my high school years and I felt in love with it:

After that I continued working out and I started attending the gym once I started University . It was a whole new world to me but I love challenges so I was happy to try something new.

Of course as soon as I started the gym I got more aware of my physic and my flaws, and that’s when I started dieting because , even thought I was not overweight, I wanted to get that muscle definition. I loved the results of dieting and weight training, but there was something I was doing wrong, I didn’t have a balance diet not I gave my body all the nutrients it needed for all the exercise I was doing.

I moved to Europe for an exchange and I got out of control with my nutrition; it was the first time I binged eated and I felt awful. This was the beginning of a very unhealthy relationship with food.

I used to binged and the day after I purged by taking laxatives and this became a cycle.

At first I wasn’t working out, and made me gain a lot of weight. After a while I got really depressed because I hated the way I looked so I stared the gym again but again I was doing things wrong; because I thought that following a strict diet was the only way to get my body back fast.

That was a very tough year for me, so when I got back to Panama I looked for help.

I visited a nutritionist that had experience with binge eating and purging and he made me a really flexible diet and I started to see food as fuel for my body.

One year after I competed in a IFBB event, it was not an easy journey but I got the opportunity to meet my coach that helped my through all that process and now I can say I accomplished that goal that was in my mind for many years.

Now I’m going to start my prep for my second show and I make this because I love to challenge myself, I finally reached that balance with food and learned to accept and love my body in every phase.
