“Right now is a tough time in my life. Transitioning from playing professionally to the real world is a big change for sure. I was having this conversation with an ex Canuck yesterday about transition period. Trying to find your next passion after something you’re so passionate about as a kid is tough. But at the same time, it comes to an end with everybody.
Retirement’s been good, it’s nice to finally be around my family and friends and share things I haven’t been able to experience because I’ve been away for so long so that part has been real nice. I’ve enjoyed that. But like I said, it’s hard work now to complete school, trying to get out there and figure out what I really want to do next.
There were many reasons why I retired. Partly because the game is kind of changing now. Younger kids are phenomenal nowadays and ice time was kind of slipping. I feel like it’s a good time in my career and my life to figure what I want to do next. Now I’m starting to build that foundation just like I did in hockey, now I’m back in school really trying to figure out my passion. There’s an old saying, ‘you can’t build the house from the top down, you got to build a solid foundation’, and that’s what I want to do right now.” – Mike Santorelli, Retired NHL Player. (7/11)
