“My most memorable memories are always the crew boat wins. Last time we were in Welland it would’ve been War Canoe, winning Juvenile War Canoe and then winning IC4 with the boys at Canada Games, that was a sick race, that was a good time. And then another IC4 win in Regina was also a sick time. And then my best C1 result was here in Welland in the 1000m which is also one of my better memories but it’s the crew boats that really makes it. Best thing about it is being with your friends, sharing the victory with your friends and that comes back to club atmosphere and just like hanging out with your friends, the people you meet through the club, they last with you forever right, those are the friendships that matter the most.
The friends that I made are still in it so I want to be a part of that right, it’s hard to let it go, it really is. It comes to a point here you got to let go, like this year I’m moving away. I’m moving to Newfoundland in the fall and that’s really going to be a change because I’m not going to be around the club, not going to be there anymore but it comes to that point for everyone right. I just want to take advantage of the time I had before I left, that’s really what’s inspired me to come back, enjoy 1 more year, do 1 more Nationals, finish it off with a bang.” – Lukas Heztler, Canadian Canoer.
