“Influence wise, as a person, who I am, also as far as my motivation, my mom being a single parent worked incredibly hard to get my sister and I the opportunities that we had so when I was growing up, in college, playing at University or high school, my mom sacrificed a lot, a lot of money, a lot of hours, a lot of her time for my sister and I so I didn’t want to throw that away, I didn’t want to waste that. So while I was trying to advance in the game as far as I could for myself, it was also in turned kind of repay my mom back and at hopes if I can get a scholarship that would save her so many down the road she had already spent to give me the opportunities that I had to get the scholarship. My mom was just incredibly supportive the whole way but at the same time if I didn’t play well she’d be honest and wouldn’t sugarcoat things and say ‘oh you’ll get it next time.’ So she was just a big motivator and to see how hard she worked for my sister and I made me want to put in that much more work in baseball. Then my sister, she’s been incredibly supportive my whole career, she loves coming to my games. If she couldn’t come to one of my games when she was younger she’d be so upset and even through college she would follow along with all my games, how the season was going, how the team was doing and when I transferred to UBC, they came out I think every weekend whether I was going to pitch or not just because they want to support me.” – Liam Stroud, Retired Baseball Pitcher.
