“I was kind of ready to hang it up. I was in Niagara University in New York for 3 years, when I transferred to UBC, my motivation when I transferred was I knew I was close. I transferred to UBC to pursue greater opportunities on the field and you know ultimately that’s what being at UBC provided for me, I came here and had the best of 4 years of college here, I talked to 2 Major League teams leading up to the draft, ultimately didn’t get picked but being able to retire from baseball I can happily know that I gave it everything I could and I got to play a child’s game longer than most people get to and so I can happily hang up my spikes, hang up my jersey and know that I gave it all I had and had a lot of fun on the way.
I love all baseball’s done for me but it’s not that I don’t want baseball to be a part of my life but I’m done playing baseball. I love baseball and I will always love baseball but I don’t need to play anymore, I don’t need to prove my abilities anymore. Like I said, I got to play a child’s game longer than most people do when I started off playing Tee ball at 5 or 6 year’s old. For all the things and all the experiences baseball’s given me I’ll be forever thankful for.” – Liam Stroud, Retired Baseball Pitcher. (1/7)
