“A family friend of ours put me on skies, we went to Seymour. That was my first run and I think I was 4? I was always an outdoors person, always loved the mountains. From then on I just kept on skiing recreationally. My brother and I both skied, we did a lot of lessons, then around 10 we were able to do blacks/blue runs, then there were no more levels. My parents wanted to keep up the sport to challenge ourselves. That’s when we joined the ski club, because not only will it benefit our technique but also a person that’s going to watching and supervising us.
I started U12 at the Cypress Ski Club, which is a little later than a lot of people. Around 11 years I started competitive skiing, went up to the Vancouver Ski Team. That’s when it got a little bit challenging with my timetable then I switched into taking my coaching, I have my CSA. I coached for a year, loved it.” – Larissa Chiu, Former Skier, Current UBC student and Pilot. (1/3)
