“I graduated at Carson Graham in 2008, the 3 main sports were football, wrestling and rugby. I did all 3. In my grade 12 year we actually won rugby Provincials so that cemented my interest forever so that was kind of my athletic background. In my grade 12 year I also blew out my knee so that kind of took me out of sports and the best way to be involved with sports while not being able to participate is to coach. What I enjoy most is working with people and just seeing them grow over the years, that’s got to be the most rewarding thing. Having done like 4 years at UBC now, so this is the first year I saw guys go from first year to fourth year and graduate, that was kind of crazy to think I’ve been there long enough to see people go through University. This year is also the first year with what I did with Level 10 that I see guys go from when I trained them when they were like 14 years old to going into the NHL draft this year, it’s kind of huge crazy journey to see them do that. I always knew I loved just working out or training or just working really hard. And coaching can let you do a lot of those things at the same time, you have to put a lot of yourself into it, you can’t just half ass it. It’s something that I can put a lot of effort into is what I always enjoyed. Coaching in particular, I get to be in the gym all day, surrounded by athletes. People getting better around you all day is pretty cool.” -Jon Stea, Strength and Conditioning Coach at Level 10 Fitness.
