“My biggest inspiration to get into strength sports is fitness youtuber Maxx Chewning. So I came across his page 3 years ago when I was doing bodybuilding workouts and was looking to get into strength sports. I found that his style of training was really appealing; he comes into the gym every single day and takes max singles so how fun is it to take max singles every single day so I did that for a while. When I moved onto weightlifting, he became a different inspiration for me, not so much an inspiration in strength sports but for business inspiration. Recently, he quit his 9-5 desk job to pursue content creation and social media platforms. Another big inspiration for me is my work with the Canucks Autism Network. I’ve been working with them for the last 3.5 years, through that I’ve seen kids grow from not being able to enter the gym the first few times you’ve seen them to see them playing in full sports in the gym. Working with the adaptive sports like that really changed my view on athletics in general. Working with those kids has really made me understand and respect the small successes. It’s really easy to look at successes only being the big monumental things and not the small little things you see every single day, the little improvements every day.” – Joey Balzer, Olympic Weightlifter.
