“I’ve always been active. I was fairly athletic when I was younger but in my early 30s I started having children. I have 3 kids. Somewhere in the midst of raising children I realized I had lost my fitness. I think a lot of moms experience a similar sort of feeling of losing themselves when they have kids. So I made a bold move 9 years ago and I Joined a local boxing gym (@griffinsboxing) in North Vancouver. For years I trained there and it got me physically fit again but it was more about my confidence. Once I found that confidence in myself, I kind of found myself again. It’s allowed me to step out and do the job that I do. I work in a leadership coaching space (@sparkcreations), I help women in business, I help youth overcome difficulties of being okay with who they are, and I help leaders in all different industries with self awareness, emotional intelligence and the importance of recognizing that everybody they are with everyday matters. That’s what fitness did for me.

I’m 50, I just celebrated my 50th birthday actually. I found that the exercise that I was doing was starting to take a toll on my body. I was starting to have hip flexors issues and shoulder injuries. I still wanted to be active, I mountain bike, ski, and surf when I can. I started coming here for a more intentional strength training to help me through those injuries. I’ve gained a lot of strength in working out here at MVMT and it has completely translated into all the sports that I like to participate in. I just came off a mountain biking trip and was telling Liam that I was impressed with how I can get over things that I wasn’t able to do before. I didn’t have the strength in my legs to be able to do that. Now we’re coming into ski season so it’s getting me ready for that.

MVMT Academy is a really relaxed open-minded atmosphere. Like any gym experience you might tell yourself you’re going to feel a little bit intimidated when you’re experiencing the gym for the first time but I didn’t. I didn’t feel that way. Liam sets the pace here. He’s super welcoming, friendly and laid back which I really appreciate. I’ve also worked out with Madie and she’s awesome. It’s opened, it’s relaxed and it’s super professional.

Don’t be afraid to show up as who you are. I lived a lot of life, my teen years and 20s stepping into other people’s paths as opposed to really understanding what my path and journey should look like. Once I figured that my journey is my journey to own, mine to live 100%, there’s a lot of joy that comes with that.” -Jen Curleigh
