“I was born in Ghana, West Africa and like any other foreign kid my parents brought me out here to make better opportunities for myself. For a long time, in terms of my career path and education, I was really just trying do whatever they would approve of. But as I’ve grown I’ve realized the importance of finding the balance between their approval and my own. I done worked my ass off to make it as far as I have and I feel like I’m just scratching the surface. I don’t know if a lot of people can relate but that shit is enough to drive me crazy sometimes. And with that also comes the waves of self doubt and insecurities that have plagued me for as long as I can remember. It’s hard seeing your peers soar to new heights while you struggle with feeling stagnant. Life moves at a speed you can’t keep up with and the faster it moves the easier it becomes to get down on yourself because you don’t know if you can make it to the finish line as quickly as those around you. But what gets me through is realizing it ain’t no sense in stressing or panicking, especially about the unknown. We all running our own race. I dictate the process necessary to achieve my goals and that’s all that matters. With that in mind and this smile on my face it also gets easier to maintain a level of sanity and consistency in order to take a step closer toward that finish line each day no matter what obstacles are in the way.” – #HankFitFam Idris Mohammed
