“Field Hockey was never my biggest passion as a young athlete, a time filler in the spring when the soccer season had ended. However, it was a sport I was fortunate enough to excel in, bringing moderate success. As things with hockey began getting serious, there came that fateful point where I had to choose which sport I would pursue. Soccer was my life, yet I had the potential to play on the Field Hockey national team and maybe even represent Canada at the Olympics. It was devastating saying goodbye to soccer, but I told myself if I was leaving it, I would do whatever it took to play for Field Hockey Canada at the Olympics. 7 years later since that decision, and I am honored to be able to call myself an Olympian. My love for field hockey has grown immensely, but my journey to the Olympics was fuelled by dedication and promise to myself that I would achieve it.” – Gabriel Ho Garcia, 2016 Field Hockey Olympian, Pan Am Games Medallist.
