“I remember growing up at the club and my dad would put us in the canoes and I remember when I first went into a kayak, I was little. All the kids at the canoe club have to learn how to tip before they can push off the dock and I was thinking ‘no I don’t want to tip’, he made me tip and I was so mad you know but that’s how he would help me. Also the year before the Olympics I found this training diary from 1974-1975 in my grandma’s basement just randomly. At that point my dad had passed away and I just qualified for the Beijing Olympics and I was able to read his training diary and see what they were doing in the 70s, and it wasn’t only his training it was like ‘I feel like crap today, thing are hard’ so it was really cool because for me it was the closest thing to an advice I would get from my dad.” – Emilie Fournel, Olympic Kayaker, Pan Am Games Gold Medalist.
