“Everything happens for a reason. And that’s the motto I stand by. From a young age I played a variety of sports, baseball, volleyball, soccer, but the one I put the most work into was always basketball. Throughout high school I’d put countless hours into perfecting my game. Whether it was getting to the gym before the janitors were there to open it or staying there until the janitors kicked me out. I always wanted to get better. However, every year when provincial tryouts rolled around I wouldn’t make the cut. Whether it was that I was too small or needed to improve my shooting, the coaches always had a reason. But I never let this discourage me. After a growth spurt and an awesome senior year, I got the opportunity to play basketball at one of the best schools in the country! Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t make those teams because I doubt I’d be where I am today. I just finished my second year which was full of injuries, but I plan to come back next year even stronger. Because it’s not how you start your journey but it’s how you finish it. And I still have a lot to prove.” – Brian Wallack
