“I got into paddling because I needed a summer activity for my parents to put me in, I was about 12. I’ve been paddling for 15 years now, on and off. I love racing, everything’s about the race, which is the reason I’m back at it, I love the excitement of racing. I stopped before because there was a lot of club politics and I was a lazy kid with a lot of other things to do. I wasn’t getting better at the sport at that point because I wasn’t committed enough. And because I wasn’t getting any better I ended up dropping out. I came back a few years later because I just wanted to exercise again and after 1 race I was hooked again. For anyone who thinks about coming back to the sport, my advice is to find a way to make it fun. Best thing is you’re out paddling with friends, you’re going on paddling trips and doing things you enjoy. Doing the training grind can get a bit tedious right, if you have that goal in my mind that you want and you’re going for it then that’s great, if you don’t, then make it fun and enjoy it.” – Ben Muench, Kayaker.
